Study Permit

The immigration document that allows a foreign student to study in Canada is called a study permit, and it is provided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). You must make sure you fulfill the terms of your study permit, which serves as your status document while you are in Canada. To learn more about the terms of a study permit, click this link.

It is your duty to make sure your study permit is good for the whole time you are enrolled in classes in Canada.

You do not need to apply for a travel visa separately if you are from a nation that requires either an entry visa (TRV) or an eTA. This will be granted for you once your study permit is approved. You will receive your study permit at the Canadian Port of Entry after being granted a visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA) and a letter of introduction to Canada.

When to Use It

The application process for a study permit can take a long time. It is crucial that you submit your permission application as soon as you have the Proof of Acceptance and Provincial Attestation letters. We advise submitting your application at least three to four months prior to the start of your program. To find out the approximate processing time for your application dependent on the nation, be sure to contact the IRCC.

Letters of Proof of Acceptance (POA) and Provincial Attestation (PAL)
Your PAL and a POA, also known as a Letter of Acceptance, must be submitted with your application for a study permit. Once you are qualified for a PAL and have made the required deposit by the deadline, you will be able to download the PAL and POA from your application portal.
